Emotional Feelings: Poems February 2016-August 2017
Emotional Feelings is the third and final book of poetry by Ariel Samuel Ackrum. This is a book that, like its subject, has no foundation in value—only the tautological ‘foundation’ of itself. This is a basic book, that is, a book with nothing to relate to outside of itself—which can only cry out “Because!” in the night to the question “Why?” The emotions herein are those whose expressivity is limited to the mere fact of their being felt—history has been abandoned to a perpetual infancy. And not only that, in the age of the social capital of the smile, it is feeling itself that makes people emotional—it is the fact of emotivity that makes people upset. The major blow dealt to human flourishing by the impossibility of the Christian ideal has merely changed faces—the expressive society has no more understanding or appreciation of the gravity of suffering than any other society.
